Global Warning
The research required for a novel about climate change, causes of climate change, and the advancement of artificial intelligence, was overwhelming at times. I don’t claim to be an expert in any way, and may well have misinterpreted some of the reams of articles and books read on the subject matter.
One thing for certain though, the more research I did, the more uneasy I became about the state of our environment, now rendered delicate by our continuing exploitation of it.
- Totten Glacier
The melting of the 75-mile long Totten Glacier, the largest in East Antarctica. Scientists in 2014 uncovered a series of tunnels underneath a major glacier in Antarctica that could transport warmer water and trigger a dramatic rise in global sea levels. http://www.livescience.com/46194-volcanoes-melt-antarctic-glaciers.html

- Drought
Such as the vicious cycle of drought and carbon release of the tropical flora; http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/tropics-feel-the-heat-of-climate-change/
- Plastic Oceans
Such as the sheer density of plastic in our oceans; in places we have vast areas of ‘dead sea’, where the currents have pulled in plastic and broken it down into a soup toxic to sea life. http://blogs.ei.columbia.edu/2011/01/26/our-oceans-a-plastic-soup/
